Mirzoyan on Armenia-Turkey dialogue: full settlement can be expected at any moment

Another important milestone has been reached in the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations.

This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in a conversation with journalists, speaking about the lifting of the ban on direct trade with Armenia, reports news.am.

The minister considers the creation of favorable conditions for the development of trade to be very important.

"One day the border will also open and exports will be carried out directly," the minister stated, adding that Ankara's decision should lead to a reduction in the cost of goods. "This is another important step in the overall process of normalizing relations," Mirzoyan noted.

Responding to a question about why the implementation of the agreement to open the border for third-country citizens and persons with diplomatic passports has stalled, the minister, without commenting directly on the issue, nevertheless expressed the opinion that "the dialogue has matured to such an extent that full settlement can be expected at any moment."

The ultimate goal of the process is to have open borders with Turkey, the establishment of diplomatic relations, and in general normal neighborly relations, he noted.

Ankara and Yerevan have completed preparations for the start of direct trade between the two countries, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli announced the day before.

"Within the framework of confidence-building measures taken in the context of the normalization process with Armenia, which has been ongoing since 2022, bureaucratic preparations for the start of direct trade between our country and Armenia have been completed as of May 11, 2026. The necessary technical and bureaucratic work to open the common border between the two countries continues," the statement posted on the official website of the Turkish Foreign Ministry says.

He noted that it has now become possible to indicate the name of the country - Turkey or Armenia - as the point of dispatch or final destination for goods sent from Turkey to a third country and from there to Armenia.
