Politico: in the EU doubts arise over Kaja Kallas's ability to negotiate with Russia
In the European Union, officials believe that the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has effectively excluded herself from any possible negotiation process with Russia.
Politico reports this, citing European diplomats.
According to one of the diplomats, “unfortunately, she has excluded herself from the list of candidates.”
As three European diplomats note, the main problem is Kallas’s tough anti-Russian stance, which in their view makes her participation in the dialogue unlikely.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed considering the candidacy of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as a possible mediator between Moscow and Europe, stating that politicians who have made sharp statements against Russia are not suitable for such a role.
In response, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that European countries will independently determine who will represent their position in the negotiations.
