Nuclear forces exercises to be held in Russia: 64,000 troops and 7,800 units of equipment involved
The Russian Armed Forces will conduct an exercise from May 19 to 21 to prepare and use nuclear forces under the threat of aggression, the Russian defense department reports.
"During the practical actions of the troops, measures are planned to bring a number of formations and military units of the nuclear forces and their comprehensive support into readiness to perform tasks, as well as to conduct launches of ballistic and cruise missiles at ranges on the territory of the Russian Federation," the statement notes.
More than 64,000 military personnel and over 7,800 units of equipment are involved in the exercises, including more than 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships and 13 submarines, in particular the Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets, the Long-Range Aviation Command, and part of the forces of the Leningrad and Central Military Districts.
