CIS secretary general announces launch of procedure for Moldova to exit Commonwealth agreements

The CIS Executive Committee has received Moldova's statement on withdrawal from key Commonwealth agreements, however Chisinau stated that it wants to preserve the economic aspect of cooperation.

This was stated by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

“Moldova has notified us. We have launched the procedure. It will last a whole year. But also a request was voiced from Chisinau that it wishes to remain in the economic cooperation of the CIS,” Lebedev said during a round table on the topic “35 years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: results, tasks, prospects.”

Earlier, decisions on Moldova's withdrawal from the basic CIS treaties - on the creation of the Commonwealth, the charter and the Alma-Ata Declaration - were approved by the country's president Maia Sandu and entered into force. Then Chisinau notified the CIS Executive Committee about this.
