U.S. imposes sanctions on Iran's largest crypto exchange

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions against Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex.

"Nobitex has provided significant support to the regime by processing more than 50% of all digital asset receipts into Iran in 2025 and facilitating payments related to Iran's terrorist activities, sanctions evasion attempts, and transactions related to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including activities related to extortionists affiliated with the IRGC," the press release published on the agency's website states.

In addition, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on other Iranian cryptocurrency exchanges — Wallex, Bitpin, and Ramzinex.

"While Iran's economy is in free fall, the regime has decided to use digital asset technologies for its own corrupt purposes, including evading sanctions and withdrawing wealth from the country. (...) The current economic chaos in Iran is proof that President Trump's maximum pressure campaign has been successful," U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, his words are quoted in the press release.
