Azerbaijan demands apology from CNN for disinformation

On June 5, 2026, the CNN channel, referring to sources it invented itself, published material with claims that Israel allegedly used the territory of Azerbaijan during the war with Iran. We regard the fact that a well-known global transnational media company disseminates blatantly fake information without relying on any facts as a gross and deliberate information manipulation.

As 1news.az reports, this is stated in a statement by the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan.

By spreading disinformation and ignoring the values of media ethics, as well as such fundamental principles of professional journalism as maintaining balance in news, CNN has not only tarnished its own reputation but also acted as a tool of propaganda in a hybrid war. The disinformation disseminated by CNN is a political provocation directed against Azerbaijan and regional security as a whole. The dissemination of such information is aimed at causing confusion in the international community, striking at regional stability and interstate relations, and creating tension in the region, the statement says.

At the highest official level, it has been repeatedly stated that the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was not used in any case against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and such fictitious, biased information is a gross manipulation, the statement notes.

The agency demands that the CNN channel, which is trying to mislead public opinion and disseminates information that threatens regional security and contradicts the principles of media ethics and journalistic professionalism, issue a retraction and apologize to Azerbaijan.
