ICC prosecutor Karim Khan suspended from office

The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided to suspend Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan from his position until the completion of disciplinary proceedings related to allegations of sexual harassment.

The decision took effect immediately and was referred to the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC, which is to hold a special session in the near future. It is emphasized that the suspension is not an admission of guilt and does not prejudge the outcome of the case.

The decision was based on data from an internal investigation conducted by the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services, as well as materials from experts and parties to the proceedings. The content of the documents is not disclosed.

Earlier, in May 2025, it was reported that Karim Khan went on administrative leave for the duration of the investigation. The accusations against him were made in October 2024. Later, it became known about new statements related to alleged incidents dating back to 2009, when one of the complainants worked as an intern in his office.
