Putin grants central bank right to independently shoot down drones

President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the Central Bank, Sberbank, and special postal service institutions to independently stop the operation of drones when repelling an attack, without waiting for the actions of specialized services.

The document was published on the portal of legal acts. It introduces amendments to three laws: the federal law “On Postal Communication,” the federal law “On the Central Bank of the Russian Federation,” and the federal law “On granting certain powers to the public joint-stock company Sberbank of Russia.”

The document assumes that organizations will be able to suppress control signals, damage or completely destroy unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as underwater and surface drones. The explanatory note emphasized that priority has been given to protecting the facilities of the Central Bank, including those located in new subjects, against the backdrop of an increase in sabotage and terrorist attacks using drones.

Before the law came into force, the right to stop the operation of drones was assigned to employees of departmental security, Rosgvardia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, the FSO, the SVR, the FSIN, as well as military personnel of rescue military formations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
