EU at summit may approve negotiations on Ukraine's accession
Leaders of European Union countries at the June 18-19 summit may formally launch the opening of the first cluster of negotiation chapters on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU, European Council President Antonio Costa said in an invitation letter to meeting participants.
"I expect that we will be able to welcome the opening of the first cluster of chapters in the accession negotiations of Ukraine and Moldova, which will be an important milestone on their path to the EU," the document says.
According to Costa, this step will "put an end to the prolonged impasse" in the negotiation process of the two countries and create new momentum for the European Union's enlargement policy. He also noted the progress of the Western Balkan countries and recalled the recent EU summit with partners in the region in Tivat.
