Golden letters torn from the 'Mother Armenia' memorial complex in Gyumri were found in a trash can.

Armenian Interior Minister spokesperson Narek Sarkisyan told Armenpress that a report on the incident has been sent to the preliminary investigation body.

"The Interior Ministry police are taking measures to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify those who allegedly committed the crime," he noted.

According to Sarkisyan, all versions are being checked. Possible provocations are not ruled out.

"Operational-search measures are being taken," the Interior Ministry spokesperson emphasized.

The Russian Embassy in Armenia had earlier expressed outrage over the desecration of the 'Mother Armenia' memorial dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Gyumri, describing the act as a deliberate attack on shared historical memory.

The torn letters were discovered by city utility workers. The gilded elements were ripped off with such force that chips and gouges remained on the memorial plaques.
