Trump threatens Macron with new tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened French leader Emmanuel Macron with 100% tariffs on all French wines and champagne if Paris does not repeal the digital tax on U.S. technology companies.
As Trump stated in an interview with the New York Post, he demanded that Macron repeal the 3% tax on technology companies; otherwise, France could face devastating tariffs on the American market.
"I asked him (Macron - ed.) not to impose tariffs on American companies, and if they do, I will have no choice but to impose a 100% tariff on all champagne and all wines produced in France," Trump said.
According to the American leader, all Macron needs to do "is repeal the sales tax, and then he will not be under such pressure."
