Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that after 5 a.m. on June 16, 60 drones were destroyed on approach to the capital.

Throughout the night, all four Moscow airports — Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky — were closed. Restrictions were lifted by morning.

Astra, citing eyewitnesses, reports that air defense systems were active in the Moscow suburb of Pavlovsky Posad, where one of the drones was shot down over the city. Drones were also shot down in Ramenskoye and Zhukovsky.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ claims that a fire broke out at the Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya after a drone attack. Moscow authorities soon confirmed the attack on the capital's oil refinery.

Sobyanin said that one of the drones damaged a facility at the oil refinery. There were no casualties.

In Krasnodar Krai, a fire broke out at an oil depot in the stanitsa of Poltavskaya after drone debris fell. The region's operations headquarters stated that there were no deaths or injuries. Due to the drone attack, the highway between the stanitsa of Poltavskaya and the khutor of Trudobelikovsky was closed.

Air defense forces destroyed 172 Ukrainian drones over regions of Russia and Crimea on the night of June 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

Drones were shot down over Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Oryol, Tambov, Tula, Rostov, and Ryazan regions, the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, annexed Crimea, and the Azov and Black seas.
