Court releases rebellious Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan from house arrest

The Court of Appeal in Armenia has released one of the rebellious archbishops, Mikael Ajapahyan, from house arrest.

In place of the preventive measure, only a written undertaking not to leave remains.

The verdict of the court of first instance in the case of Archbishop Mikael has been overturned, and the proceedings have been transferred to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Shirak Province for a new trial.

Recall that at the beginning of October 2025, the Yerevan court of first instance sentenced Ajapahyan to two years in prison on charges of calling for the seizure of power.

On February 6, 2026, the Court of Appeal in Yerevan released him from the pre-trial detention center, transferring him to house arrest.
