Media: wife of ex-president of Republic of Korea sentenced to seven years

Kim Gon Hee, the wife of former president of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk-yeol, was sentenced to seven years in prison in another corruption case.

This was reported by the Yonhap news agency.

The court of first instance concluded that Kim Gon Hee received expensive gifts in the form of jewelry from entrepreneurs in exchange for patronage in personnel and business matters.

Earlier in April, the court of second instance toughened the punishment for the former first lady in another case of corruption and fraud, sentencing her to four years in prison.

The judicial system in the Republic of Korea consists of three levels, the last being the Supreme Court.
