Kyiv announces new prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia
A new prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia may take place in the coming days, said the head of the Office of the Ukrainian President, Kyrylo Budanov.
"God willing, you will see the exchange in the coming days," he said while speaking with students of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
Recall that the last exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place on June 5 — it was the second stage of a large-scale exchange in the "1000 for 1000" format.
185 military personnel and one civilian returned home — fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National Guard, and State Border Service, among whom were those held in captivity since 2022.
The first stage of this exchange took place on May 15 under agreements reached with U.S. mediation. Then it was possible to return 205 Ukrainian defenders.
In total, according to the calculations of the Ombudsman's Office, Ukraine has returned more than 9 thousand of its citizens from Russian captivity, among them hundreds of civilians whom Russia held illegally.
