Iran and Oman held first meeting of committee on Strait of Hormuz

The first meeting of the joint Iran-Oman committee on the Strait of Hormuz took place in Muscat, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.

"During the trip to Muscat, the first meeting of the joint committee on the Strait of Hormuz took place... During the discussion of current issues related to the strait, we exchanged views on the future management of the strait within the framework of the fifth article of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the sovereign rights of coastal states," Gharibabadi wrote on his official page on the social network X.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf reported on June 23 that Iran and Oman are creating a joint committee for dialogue on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian authorities had previously reported on the development of a new legal order in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that this process is being coordinated with the other coastal country, Oman. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz had been open for free passage of vessels for years, but the situation in the Strait of Hormuz after the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran will never be the same again.

Iranian authorities emphasized that they plan to charge fees for providing services related to the safe passage of vessels through the waterway; however, Tehran noted that the fee is not a duty. After reaching a memorandum with the United States, Iran on June 18 committed to not charging vessels any money for 60 days.
