Heat in Spain claims over a thousand lives in June

More than 1,000 deaths in June 2026 in Spain have been linked to hot weather.

This is evidenced by data from the daily mortality monitoring system.

Earlier, the newspaper El Pais, citing preliminary information, reported about 900 cases. It is noted that in the first summer month, the average temperature on the mainland of the kingdom was 23.2 degrees. As a result, last month became the second warmest June in the history of observations by the Spanish state meteorological agency, which have been conducted since 1961. The hottest was recognized as the first summer month of 2025 with 23.6 degrees.

Observations related to mortality due to high temperatures have been conducted since 2015. Previously, the highest number of cases — 1,000 — was recorded in 2017.

Currently, a weather warning has again been issued in a number of regions of the country due to heat that may exceed 40 degrees.
