Indictment in Reza Pahlavi case sent to court in Iran
The indictment in the case of Reza Pahlavi, son of the last Iranian shah overthrown in 1979, has been sent to court after an investigation by Iranian judicial authorities, Tehran prosecutor Ali Salehi said.
His words are reported by RIA Novosti. Salehi noted that the investigation in the case focuses on a "series of criminal actions" by the accused, especially during the protests that took place in Iran in December-January and the acute phase of the conflict with the United States and Israel.
"At the initiative of the state prosecutor's office and the prosecutor's office of the city of Tehran and the formation of the case in the prosecutor's department No. 20 (special for international cases - ed.) of the city of Tehran, a large-scale judicial investigation was conducted into the actions of the accused Reza Pahlavi. After the completion of the investigation... in accordance with the law, an indictment was issued, and the case was transferred to the competent court," the Mizan agency quotes Salehi as saying.
According to the Tehran prosecutor, the charges against Pahlavi include: forming and leading organized groups and networks with the aim of undermining the country's security and opposing the foundations of the Islamic Republic of Iran; leading, organizing, and financing terrorist acts; cooperating with hostile governments during conflicts; espionage, as well as intelligence and operational cooperation with foreign intelligence. The list does not end there and includes, adds Salehi, charges of propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran, incitement and issuing orders to commit crimes against the physical integrity of individuals, orders for the large-scale destruction of public, government, and private property, as well as the country's infrastructure, and orders to seize government buildings.
At the end of December 2025, due to the devaluation of the national currency in Iran, protests began that later turned into riots and actions against the authorities, reaching a peak after calls from Reza Pahlavi, son of the overthrown Iranian shah. Internet service stopped working in the country, and casualties were reported on both the side of security forces and the side of the participants in the unrest. The Iranian authorities, who accused the United States and Israel of organizing the riots, stated on January 12 of this year that the situation had been brought under control.
Also in January, Pahlavi called on U.S. President Donald Trump to "be ready to intervene" in Iran's affairs to help the participants in the protests in the country. In his post on the social network X, Pahlavi asked Trump for help, briefly describing the situation at the protests in Iran. He also expressed the opinion that the threats from the American president had a restraining effect on local authorities.
