Shooting incidents on U.S. Independence Day claim 100 lives
100 people were killed and another 340 injured by gunshot wounds over three days of U.S. Independence Day celebrations, the nongovernmental organization Gun Violence Archive reports.
"There were nearly a record number of mass shootings over the July 4 weekend - 20. That hasn't happened since the record year of 2021. The total number of people injured or killed as a result of shootings over the weekend is 100 killed, 340 injured," the organization's message on X said.
Gun Violence Archive notes that the data are preliminary and may change later.
