Georgian delegation leaves OSCE PA meeting in protest

The Georgian delegation refused to participate in the vote on the Hague Declaration at the plenary session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in protest, stating that certain provisions of the document distort the political situation in the country and contradict national interests, the Rustavi 2 television company reports.

"The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the Hague Declaration, which includes a resolution on Georgia. The Georgian delegation refused to participate in the vote in protest," the message says.

The corresponding statement before the vote was made by the chairman of the Georgian parliament's committee on foreign relations, Nikoloz Samkharadze.

"Since certain parts of the revised version of the declaration deliberately distort the existing political reality in Georgia, grossly misrepresent and falsify facts, completely ignore violent attacks on state institutions… our delegation will not participate in the voting process in protest," Samkharadze said.

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pere Joan Pons, commenting on the Georgian side's statement, noted that boycotting meetings does not contribute to resolving disagreements.
