6,000 seafarers blocked in the Persian Gulf
About 6,000 seafarers continue to remain blocked on vessels in the Persian Gulf.
This was reported by Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the UN Arsenio Dominguez, condemning the recent shelling of vessels in this important maritime artery.
"I condemn the attacks carried out over the past two days on several vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," the statement from the head of the UN specialized agency reads. "The situation in the region remains extremely unstable. These attacks further heighten the fear, uncertainty, and psychological stress already being experienced by nearly 6,000 seafarers who remain blocked aboard vessels with no opportunity to safely leave the Persian Gulf."
