What Erdogan gave to NATO summit leaders and why Starmer refused to take this gift to London

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented an unusual gift to the heads of state and government who took part in the 36th NATO summit in Ankara.

Each of the leaders received a custom-made revolver engraved with their name, along with a set of cartridges.

The Turkish side also provided the guests with all the necessary export documents allowing the gift to be legally taken out of the country.

However, not all summit participants were able to accept the present. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told journalists on board the plane after the summit that he was unable to bring the gifted revolver into the United Kingdom because of existing British legislation regulating the import of firearms.

According to the publication, the revolver was left at the British Embassy in Ankara.

The symbolic gift from the Turkish leader became one of the most discussed details of the NATO summit.
