"I don't regret anything": what happened at Meloni's press conference after the NATO summit

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni drew attention with an unusual episode during a press conference following the 36th NATO summit in Ankara.

Before journalists asked a question about her relations with U.S. President Donald Trump, Giorgia Meloni drank a glass of water standing on the podium in one gulp.

To a question about a publication by Donald Trump in which he stated that regarding Meloni "a decision on removal must be made," Meloni said: "I have already said that I am not going to return to this topic."

Some media outlets linked this gesture specifically to the question about Donald Trump, but it is unknown whether Meloni knew in advance what she would be asked.

When asked whether she regrets her political bet on relations with Trump, the head of the Italian government replied: "I don't regret anything. My political position is based on the conviction of the need for Western unity. This is not a strategy that I chose only after Trump's return to power, but a general approach that I adhere to in relations with all my partners."

In addition, Meloni confirmed that Italy does not intend to participate in possible strikes on Iran. According to her, Rome has taken this position from the very beginning and has not changed it.

The Italian prime minister also emphasized that the military path has not brought tangible results on the issue of Iran and again called for a diplomatic settlement.
