ICC prosecutor dismissed due to harassment

The Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) decided to remove prosecutor Karim Khan, accused of sexual harassment, from his position, said assembly president Päivi Kaukoranta.
82 out of 125 member countries voted for his dismissal. This is the first time in the history of the court that a sitting prosecutor is removed from office, Reuters reports.

In May 2025, the ICC reported sending Khan on administrative leave until the end of the investigation against him in the case of sexual harassment against a subordinate. At the end of August, the British newspaper The Guardian wrote about a second accusation of the same crime.

Khan has repeatedly denied all accusations against him. His lawyer stated that he will challenge “the legality and fairness of the decision using all available legal mechanisms.”

Khan is known for issuing arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.
