Agos and the Hrant Dink Foundation: who and why promotes anti-Azerbaijani narratives?

The Azerbaijani analytical resource Fakt Yoxla published a large-scale investigation dedicated to the activities of the Istanbul publication Agos and the associated Hrant Dink Foundation.

In the material, the editorial policy, sources of funding, and key narratives of these structures are examined in detail.

The immediate reason for the publication was an article in Agos that criticized the European Union for "insufficient pressure on Baku regarding Armenian detainees" due to Brussels's energy interests. In response, Fakt Yoxla experts conducted a comprehensive analysis of the publication's work, demonstrating how the platform, originally conceived as a tool for Turkish-Armenian civil dialogue, has over time transformed into a platform for one-sided propaganda.

The investigation notes that during the lifetime of the newspaper's founder Hrant Dink, the editorial staff genuinely sought to build bridges between the Armenian community and Turkish society. However, after his murder in 2007, the publication's course changed dramatically. The authors of Fakt Yoxla accuse Agos of systematically publishing biased and anti-Azerbaijani materials, promoting one-sided interpretations of historical events, criticizing Azerbaijan's counterterrorism measures in Karabakh, and attempting to distort facts about the Khojaly tragedy.

In addition, the material emphasizes that the newspaper and its individual authors closely cooperate with Western foundations and information structures. According to Fakt Yoxla's assessment, such activities are conducted to the detriment of the state interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey and hinder real normalization of relations in the region.
