Scandal around Jared Leto: ten women accuse musician of years of harassment
Oscar winner and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto has found himself at the center of a major scandal after the documentary project "Jared Leto: The Dark Secret of Hollywood" was announced.
The film is based on interviews with ten women who accused the artist of destructive behavior and harassment, with some of the alleged incidents dating back to when the victims were minors.
Nine of the film's protagonists spoke openly about their experiences for the first time. According to the investigation materials, the episodes described date from the period between 2002 and 2016, when the musician was between 30 and 40 years old. Leto is currently 54 years old.
One of the investigation participants stated that at the age of 17 she was subjected to harassment in a motel bathroom. Another interviewee shared memories of how at 19 she found herself in a locked hotel room with the Hollywood star, who allegedly openly threatened her.
A third victim spoke about sexual contact with the actor in California when she was also 17 years old; in this state the age of consent is 18, but the artist himself, according to her, ignored this legal fact and casually dismissed any discussion of the topic.
A fourth woman described systematic psychological pressure from the celebrity, who used her star status. According to her claims, at the age of 16 she regularly received phone calls from Leto of an explicitly sexual nature, and in at least one of those conversations the musician persistently offered her intimate relations.
A separate incident mentioned in the investigation concerns a minor who was 14 years old at the time of the event. According to her, after Leto made a vulgar comment about her appearance during an autograph session, he ordered security to take the minor backstage at the music festival. When the girl's mother tried to resolve the conflict and approached the musician, he, according to the testimony, repeated his offensive words to her.
Media representatives note that complaints about the star's lifestyle and behavior have been voiced for many years. Thus, more than 120 similar accusations and testimonies from women claiming inappropriate treatment by the performer have been recorded in open sources over the years.
Against the backdrop of the upcoming premiere of the documentary, attention to the actor's past has once again intensified, but so far no official comments have been received from Jared Leto himself or his representatives regarding the new accusations.
