Media: U.S. State Department plans to close five foreign diplomatic missions

The State Department has notified Congress of its intention to close five American diplomatic missions at once.

This was reported by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

According to them, the cuts will affect U.S. missions in the cities of Winnipeg (Canada), Nagoya (Japan), Douala (Cameroon), Medan (Indonesia), and St. George's (Grenada). It is noted that the White House initially sought to close up to 30 foreign missions, since many of them are ineffective in terms of investment and are no longer necessary, but at the moment the cuts will affect only five of them.

At the same time, the U.S. Democratic Party and Reuters sources in the field of national security expressed concerns that the reduction of American diplomatic missions could undermine Washington's positions in several regions at once.
