IAEA chief Grossi: The UN is slowly dying
The United Nations (UN) is slowly dying because of its inability to resolve international crises.
That opinion was shared by the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).
"I don't see [the UN] being in immediate danger [of disappearing]. I rather see it as something like a slow death. The UN is gradually losing its significance… without making a meaningful contribution to the settlement of recent crises or interstate wars," he explained.
Grossi noted his sense of disappointment in the organization due to the deplorable results of its activities in other areas, "to which it was supposed to switch." He included social programs and the fight against climate change among such spheres.
Rafael Grossi is expected to possibly take the post of UN secretary-general after the expiration of the term of the organization's current head, António Guterres.
