Media: Iran may track American troops through fitness app

The Iranian army may be using publicly available data from the fitness app Strava to gather information about the activity of American service members at military bases in the Middle East.

As 1news.az reports, citing the Sky News television channel, American service members publish data about their workouts under their real names, which allows potential adversaries to obtain information about daily routines, the locations of facilities, and movement routes at air bases.

According to the channel, shortly before the conflict resumed, American service members at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan were finishing their runs in the same place, presumably next to the location of a barracks. On July 18, Iran struck that barracks.

Sky News notes that service members around the world may unintentionally disclose confidential information about the locations of military facilities. Similar cases have been identified in Cyprus and Israel.

Let us note that earlier the newspaper Le Monde reported that the exact location of the French aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" also became available to the public after one of the crew members used the Strava app during a run. According to the publication, the ship was off the northwestern coast of Cyprus, approximately 100 km from the shores of Turkey.
