Armenia has approached a neutral country regarding visits to the separatists imprisoned in Baku

Armenia has approached a third, neutral country with a request to arrange a consular visit to Armenian citizens serving sentences in Azerbaijan.

As Sputnik Armenia reports, Armenia's Foreign Ministry stated that such a visit requires Baku's consent.

The Foreign Ministry did not specify which country was involved. At the same time, the agency reported that it is continuing discussions with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on resuming visits to Armenians serving sentences in Azerbaijani prisons.

This year the ICRC has still not received the corresponding permission to visit the prisoners, the ministry's response states.

Recall that, according to the verdict of the Baku Military Court of February 5, 2026, the leaders of the former separatist regime Arayik Harutyunyan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, David Manukyan, Davit Ishkhanyan and Davit Babayan were sentenced to life imprisonment, Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan – to 20 years in prison, Madat Babayan and Meliksed Pashayan – 19, Garik Martirosyan – 18, Davit Alaverdyan and Levon Balayan – 16, Vasily Beglaryan, Gurgen Stepanyan and Erik Ghazaryan – 15. By the verdict of the Baku Military Court of February 17, Ruben Vardanyan was sentenced to 20 years in prison. A guilty verdict was handed down for crimes against peace and humanity committed as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, war crimes, including the preparation and waging of an aggressive war, genocide, violation of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing of terrorism, forcible seizure of power and numerous other crimes.
