Yuriy Husev: The strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan is being strengthened for the sake of a lasting peace

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine's independence, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husev, published an opinion column.

In his article, the diplomat emphasized that today independence for the Ukrainian people is not only a historic achievement, but also a daily responsibility, defended at the cost of colossal efforts and sacrifices.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine has been defending the right of every state to independently determine its own future without dictates from outside. In this context, the diplomat highlighted Kyiv's key priorities, including achieving a just and lasting peace based on the UN Charter, accelerated European integration, and deepening ties with the countries of the region, where bilateral relations with Baku are accorded special status.

Yuriy Husev particularly noted the high intensity of the political dialogue between the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Following meetings in Davos and Copenhagen in 2025, an important stage was the Ukrainian leader's working visit to Azerbaijan on April 25, 2026. The talks in Gabala concluded with the signing of six bilateral documents that set a long-term vector for cooperation.

The partnership between the two countries is being actively filled with practical content. In the energy sector, Azerbaijan has sent Ukraine 11 aid packages for the restoration of damaged infrastructure. Within the framework of humanitarian cooperation, Azerbaijan has taken in for rehabilitation and rest more than 660 children of fallen and missing Ukrainian defenders, rescuers, and residents of front-line areas, and it also continues to actively participate in the reconstruction of Irpin. In parallel, the parties are developing economic and transport cooperation, forming new investment projects and logistics routes.

In conclusion, Yuriy Husev expressed deep gratitude to the leadership and people of Azerbaijan for their consistent support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ambassador expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between Kyiv and Baku will continue to strengthen in the name of peace and stability in the Black Sea–Caspian region.
