WSJ: Trump personally sent the CIA director to Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump personally sent CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Russia.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing American officials.

According to them, Ratcliffe's mission was "so delicate" that even some White House officials did not know about it in advance. Representatives of the U.S. military leadership and Trump's trusted aides, who are usually informed about such events, remained unaware of the message Ratcliffe was to deliver to the Kremlin, the publication notes. According to its sources, European officials were forced to seek information about it only after his visit.

The newspaper claims, citing two European officials, that Ratcliffe told his Russian counterparts that the United States remains committed to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty on collective defense. In addition, Ratcliffe discussed in Moscow Russia's cooperation with Iran and the intensification of negotiations with Ukraine, unnamed American and European officials told WSJ.
