WSJ: U.S. faces a food crisis due to instability in the fertilizer market
The United States of America risks facing a food crisis amid the destabilization of the global fertilizer market.
This was stated by Heartland Institute adviser Jeff Stier in a column for The Wall Street Journal. According to him, fluctuations in fertilizer prices pose a threat to key domestic priorities of the American administration — in particular, curbing food inflation and promoting healthy eating programs.
Among the main causes of the crisis situation on the global market, the expert singled out the Ukrainian conflict, tensions in the area of the Strait of Hormuz, and the restrictions currently in place from China on the export of these products. To minimize dependence on imported supplies and stabilize the domestic market, Stier called on Washington to focus on developing its own production of mineral resources.
