Pashinyan intends to discuss the strategy for developing relations with Putin

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the strategy for developing bilateral relations will be discussed at his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek.

"Today I will meet with the esteemed President of Russia Vladimir Putin. We will discuss the strategy for the further development of our relations," Pashinyan said at the SCO Plus summit in Bishkek.

He also added that relations with India and Iran are in fact strategic in nature.

A day earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, commenting on the absence of Russia among the strategic partners in the government's program for 2026–2031, stated that in legal, political, and economic terms Russia remains more than just a strategic partner for Armenia. At the same time, he said that Armenian-Russian relations need to be rethought, improved, and based on mutual respect.

In March 2025, Armenia's parliament passed a law on launching the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union, and in April of the same year it was approved by the country's president, Vahagn Khachaturyan. Putin, at a meeting with Pashinyan, stated that it is impossible for Armenia to be in a customs union with both the EU and the EAEU, and suggested that Yerevan make a choice by holding a referendum.
