Zelensky imposes sanctions against his former press secretary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree imposing sanctions on his former press secretary Yuliia Mendel.

This was reported on Sunday, September 13, by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

According to the document, the sanctions were applied to 10 Russian and Ukrainian citizens for spreading disinformation and Russian propaganda, as well as for supporting Russia's aggressive policy toward Ukraine. In particular, the restrictions affected Zelensky's former press secretary Yuliia Mendel.

Mendel reacted almost immediately to the restrictions imposed against her. She stated that the sanctions would not change her position, adding that she had expected a similar reaction from her former boss.

"A few days before my speech in the European Parliament, Volodymyr Zelensky, my former boss, imposed sanctions against me. Sanctions against citizens of Ukraine are unconstitutional, like many other decisions by Zelensky. Volodymyr Zelensky applies them against everyone who advocates peace in Ukraine. I knew that 'treason' was being prepared because of my interview with Tucker Carlson, and I suspected the possibility of sanctions. This does not change my position, nor the position of millions of Ukrainians. To survive, Ukraine needs peace, not another dictatorship, even if it is Zelensky's dictatorship," Mendel wrote.

In addition, the sanctions list includes 20 sea vessels that Russia uses to export oil, petroleum products, and liquefied gas. Restrictions were also imposed on 29 Russian citizens and 29 Russian companies.

As "Ukrainski Novyny" reported, in May the former press secretary of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Yuliia Mendel, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, voiced suspicions regarding Zelensky's possible drug use.

In August, Mendel stated that President Zelensky is the main beneficiary of the war in Ukraine.
