Zeynep Mestan has been appointed head coach of the men's team of Turgutluspor, the press service of the Turkish club reports.

"We wish Zeynep Mestan, who will take charge of the new formation and the technical structure of our club, success under the red-and-black emblem," the club's statement says.

The 22-year-old Mestan became the first woman in this post in the history of Turgutluspor. Club president Yilmaz Genctürk stated that Mestan was chosen after studying her project and consulting with the coaching staff.

At the presentation, Mestan demonstrated her football skills: the coach, wearing high-heeled shoes, juggled the ball several times.

Mestan was born on July 30, 2004, in Izmir. She began her football career in 2019 and played for Karsiyaka, Belediyespor, Bornova Hitab Spor and other teams. She ended her career as a football player early, since she wanted to enroll in a sports faculty and make coaching work her main goal.

Mestan also said that she mainly looks up to Pep Guardiola in Europe and Sergen Yalcin in Turkey. The coach also outlined a long-term goal – to bring Turgutluspor into Turkey's First League (the second-strongest division. – Championat's note) within five years. Currently the club competes at the amateur level.
