The United Kingdom purchased gold from Azerbaijan for the first time in 16 years
In January-July 2026, Azerbaijan increased its gold exports by 20.8 times in value terms, to $3.7078 billion, and by 8.5 times in volume terms, to 24,517.2 kg.
As Report informs with reference to the State Statistics Committee, the exports covered gold in unprocessed and semi-processed forms.
In particular, this category includes ingots, bars, wire, profiles, plates, sheets, strips, and bands with a thickness exceeding 0.15 mm, excluding the base, as well as unprocessed gold not intended for minting coins.
The main sales market was the United Kingdom, to which Azerbaijan supplied 21,902 kg of gold worth $3.4685 billion. Deliveries to this country were carried out for the first time in the past 16 years.
A total of 2,615 kg of gold worth $239.4 million was exported to Switzerland. Compared with the same period last year, the value of deliveries grew by 34%, while their physical volume decreased by 9.7%.
During the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported 136.51 kg of gold worth $21.2 million. Year-on-year, the value of imports decreased by 99.4%, and the volume by 99.6%.
From Turkey, 82.43 kg of gold worth $13.7 million was imported. In value terms, the indicator declined by 86.2%, and in volume terms by 92.6%.
Imports from Switzerland amounted to 54 kg worth $7.4 million, decreasing by 96.3% and 95%, respectively. From the United Arab Emirates, 0.1 kg of gold worth $80,000 was purchased, whereas a year earlier no deliveries were made from that country.
In 2025, Azerbaijan exported gold exclusively to Switzerland. The volume of deliveries amounted to 4,522 kg for a total of $326.2 million.
