North Korea launches ballistic missile
North Korea on Sunday launched a short-range ballistic missile toward the sea.
According to the South Korean presidential administration, the launch was carried out from the area of the eastern coastal city of Wonsan. Afterward, an emergency meeting of the National Security Council was held in Seoul.
The new launch came amid a series of North Korean weapons tests. Earlier in September, Pyongyang conducted joint live-fire drills involving missiles, artillery, and drones.
North Korea continued its tests even after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a significant reduction in the scale of joint exercises with South Korea, hoping in this way to create conditions for resuming dialogue with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The North Korean leader's sister, Kim Yo Jong, previously stated that reducing the scale of the exercises does not change their "provocative and aggressive nature."
