CNN, MSNOW and Politico file lawsuit over ban on working at the White House

American media outlets CNN, MSNOW and Politico have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. administration after the White House stripped their journalists of accreditation over dissatisfaction with their publications, according to a joint statement by the three outlets.

On September 18, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ban on CNN, MSNOW and Politico working at the White House, accusing them of spreading "fake news." The following day, journalists from the three outlets were denied access to the White House complex, and their passes were deactivated or confiscated.

"This morning we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit in defense of our rights guaranteed by the First Amendment and of the principle that the government should not decide what the press reports or publishes," the statement by the American media outlets says.

According to the outlets, the White House revoked their journalists' accreditations without prior notice or any established procedure because of dissatisfaction with their publications. CNN, MSNOW and Politico believe that such a decision threatens freedom of the press and the public's right to independent journalism without interference from the authorities.
