UK airports hit by technical problems
Airports in Northern Ireland, England, and Scotland were affected by a malfunction in the system used by the National Air Traffic Service.
This was reported by British media.
"Early this morning, a technical problem arose at our center in Prestwick, Scotland," said a representative of the National Air Traffic Control Service.
The fault was eventually fixed, but it will still take time for the airports to return to normal operations.
Delays and cancellations of flights were recorded at several airports in the capital, including Heathrow and London City. Disruptions also occurred at the international airports of Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Belfast, and at Leeds Bradford Airport.
According to the aviation analytics company Cirium, a total of 24 flights were canceled. In addition, there were reports of hundreds of departures being delayed.
This is already the second recent incident of an air traffic control system breakdown in the United Kingdom. During the previous failure, which occurred on September 8, more than 2,100 flights were delayed or canceled. The cause of the disruption to the program at that time was a system failure.
