Ilham Aliyev signs decree pardoning a number of convicted individuals

President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree pardoning a number of individuals serving sentences.

1news.az reports this with reference to the official website of the head of state.

The decision was made on the basis of the principles of humanism, taking into account the appeals of the convicts themselves, their family members and the commissioner for human rights (ombudsman), as well as the nature of the crimes committed, the state of health, family status and behavior of the convicts during the period of serving their sentences.

According to the decree, 19 people have been released from further serving their sentences of imprisonment. Among them are citizens of Azerbaijan, as well as foreign nationals — of Turkey, Russia, Israel, France and Pakistan. In addition, the document releases from the unserved part of the sentence one citizen sentenced to restriction of freedom.

The decree enters into force on the day of its signing.
