U.S. authorities require diplomats to call AI "superintelligence"

The U.S. State Department has instructed diplomats to use the term "superintelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence" in official documents. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing the agency's internal correspondence.

A letter to employees of the State Department's Bureau of International Organization Affairs states that, following U.S. President Donald Trump's speech at the UN General Assembly, all mentions of "artificial intelligence" in documents should be replaced with "superintelligence."

Trump himself said during his speech that he wants to abandon the term "artificial intelligence," because the word "artificial," in his opinion, creates the impression that it is something unreal. The president proposed using the name "superintelligence" and stated that it would be used in U.S. government documents.
