Saida Mirziyoyeva proposed considering the death penalty after the case of abuse of a 5-year-old girl
The Head of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, stated that following the report of sexual abuse of a child in Namangan, proposals are being prepared for amendments to the legislation that would provide for the maximum tightening of liability for such crimes.
«I was informed about the tragedy that occurred in Namangan. Upon learning about it, I felt genuine anger», — Saida Mirziyoyeva wrote.
According to her, in her opinion, the death penalty should be applied for such crimes. At the same time, she noted that the current legislation of Uzbekistan does not provide for capital punishment.
«Since the current law does not provide for it, we are preparing proposals for amendments to the legislation in order to tighten liability as much as possible», — the statement says.
Saida Mirziyoyeva also reported that the relevant authorities have been given the necessary instructions. According to her, the suspect must receive the most severe punishment within the framework of the current legislation.
She also stated the need to hold accountable those who showed negligence and failed to ensure the child's safety.
It was reported earlier that on September 12, in the Uchkurgan district of the Namangan region of Uzbekistan, a criminal case was opened over the possible sexual abuse of a five-year-old child. On the same day, the suspect was detained, and the court chose detention as a preventive measure for him. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
The proposal to introduce the death penalty is an initiative of Saida Mirziyoyeva. Amending the legislation will require the adoption of the relevant regulatory acts.
