17 people killed in bar shooting in South Africa - VIDEO
At least 17 people have been killed in a bar in the northeast of the Republic of South Africa (RSA), in the mining settlement of Wedela, 80 km southwest of Johannesburg.
As 1news.az reports citing TASS, this was announced by the national police in a report published on its portal.
"Another 15 people were injured," it notes. "A group of eight unidentified men with AK-47 assault rifles and pistols burst into the establishment and opened indiscriminate fire. Shots were fired both at patrons inside the bar and at people who were near it. Thirteen men and four women were killed. Mobile phones were taken from the victims."
The attackers set several cars on fire and then fled in two vehicles. Reinforced police units have been dispatched to search for the criminals. The attackers' motives are unclear. So far, no one has been arrested.
The Republic of South Africa is among the world's ten countries with the highest number of murders. This year, according to South African police data, an average of 63 people are killed daily in the country.
