Tokayev reveals unexpected detail of servicemen's deaths in the Caspian Sea

The Kazakh servicemen who died during Naval Forces exercises in the Caspian Sea did not have life jackets.

This was stated by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a meeting with the republic's top military leadership.

According to him, during the exercises the servicemen were not provided with the necessary equipment, including marine life jackets.

"Long-standing problems in the army are not being resolved by the leadership year after year, which undermines the country's defense capability. No lessons have been learned from past tragedies. Who developed and approved the concept of these exercises?" Tokayev asked. He questioned the role of the General Staff in coordinating the exercises and inquired why the commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces was absent from them.

Tokayev came down with criticism on the military department, adding that their approach lacks systematic work.
