UN says terrorists are increasingly using AI

Terrorist groups are making increasingly active use of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, and are also trying to take advantage of instability and weak government administration in individual countries. This was stated to TASS by Acting Under-Secretary-General of the UN and head of the world organization's Counter-Terrorism Office Alexander Zuev on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee.

"Terrorism continues to evolve. Terrorist groups are increasingly using new and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and are seeking to take advantage of instability and weak governance, especially in some parts of Africa," Zuev said.

According to him, countering the changing terrorist threat requires constant efforts and vigilance. Zuev also noted that the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, together with the Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee and its executive directorate, coordinates assistance to states in strengthening their capacity and provides them with technical assistance based on the committee's recommendations.
