Armenia files complaint with EEC over Russian trade restrictions

In October, a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) will be held, during which Armenia's appeal regarding the restrictions imposed by the Russian Federation on imports of Armenian products will be considered.

This was stated by Armenia's Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, Armenian media report.

Yerevan expects the Commission to officially recognize the existing bans and phytosanitary restrictions imposed by Russia as a barrier to trade within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

"We believe that this is an obstacle created by one country with respect to another. According to the EAEU regulations, if one country applies such measures against another, the latter may appeal to the EEC. If the Commission recognizes what is happening as a barrier, within 30 days that state must remove the obstacles," the head of the agency explained.

Earlier during the summer, Rosselkhoznadzor introduced a number of restrictions on supplies of fruit and vegetable, fish, and dairy products from Armenia. The Armenian Ministry of Economy notes that the trade barriers that have arisen create significant risks for the country's export sector.
