The Pope addressed the leaders of Russia and Ukraine
Pope Leo XIV has called on Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to "sit down at the negotiating table" and "enter into dialogue."
His remarks from an address in the French city of Metz are cited by the portal Do Rzeczy.
"That is why we continue to invite the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table, to enter into dialogue and to seek solutions without continuing wars. We cannot force anyone. Sometimes it may seem that our efforts are pointless, but we will continue to speak out, to invite dialogue and to raise our voice," Leo XIV said.
According to the pontiff, the church must promote human dignity, uphold the value of life and encourage the allocation of greater resources to health care.
He also recalled Schuman's words that there will be no peace on earth unless efforts are made "commensurate with the dangers that threaten it." Leo XIV urged against falling into the illusion that rearmament is the answer to existing threats. The Pope called the promotion of peace "an active task."
