Iraq confirms end of the international coalition's mission in the country

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi has officially announced the end of the mission of the U.S.-led international alliance on the country's territory.

"The mission of the international coalition in Iraq has ended in victory, and now we must preserve its legacy. A new stage is beginning — the stage of a sovereign Iraq," he said during ceremonial events dedicated to the country's Sovereignty Day.

Al-Zeidi, who was quoted by the INA agency, also emphasized that the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq "does not mean the end of the fight against terrorism," but "marks the transition to a stage in which Baghdad itself will be responsible for the security and stability of the country." At the same time, the Iraqi premier noted, cooperation with members of the coalition will continue — including in the sphere of technology exchange for the sake of ensuring security inside the republic.
