Azer Gasymly Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

The final court hearing in the criminal case of Azer Gasymly, director of the Institute of Political Management and political scientist, has taken place.

At today's session in the Baku Court for Serious Crimes, chaired by Judge Telman Huseynov, the verdict was announced.

According to the verdict, Azer Gasymly has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

It should be noted that the state prosecutor had requested a 13-year prison sentence for Azer Gasymly.

As a reminder, political scientist Azer Gasymly was detained on December 8, 2024, following received complaints. He was found guilty under Article 182.3.2 of the Criminal Code (extortion by threats, committed with the aim of obtaining property in large amounts).
